Fish Weaving
We read the classic book, "Rainbow Fish". Student used sharpies and construction paper crayons to create a giant fish. Then the fish had a little "surgery" so the students could do some weaving. They used and over/under technique to weave paper strips through the body. Then they added more paper to create the fins and tail. Monet Bridges
Students learned about Claude Monet and the way he painted with lots of dots. Each student was given a paper with a tape bridge on it. The painted all over the paper with lots of dots like Claude Monet. Once the painting were dry they slowly peeled the tape away to reveal their bridge. Then they added lily pads, flowers and vines with oil pastels. Symmetrical Germs
Students watched a video reminding them about germs and how important it is to wash their hands. We decided germs made us feel icky, sad and angry so we crumpled up our papers. Then we smoothed them out and painted them with lot of colorful blobs. We practiced our symmetry by folding our papers in half, drawing a germ shape and cutting it out. We then added symmetrical features like eyes, a mouth teeth and eyebrows. Polar Bears
We read the book "Polar Bear and the Rainbow", where a polar bear wishes he was a different color. He learns that he perfect just the way he is. The students then used white chalk to draw a polar bear and then smudged the chalk to make it look fuzzy. They created a smudged rainbow with snowflakes, then cut their polar bears out and glued them on. Each polar bear has personality of it's own. Kandinsky Trees
Students learned about Wassily Kandinsky and his painting Squares with Concentric Circles. Students used circles as the main element in this piece of artwork. They dipped marker caps in paint to create the circles in the background and dotted on green paint for grass. Then they traced their hands and arm for the tree. They used circle tracers and wonderful colors to create 3 concentric circles for each branch. The finishing touch was a little bit of glitter to give it sparkle. |
